Contactless payment

Contactless payments have quickly become popular among Brazilians. Among the main in-person credit card transactions in the country, in the first half of this year, more than 7 billion used NFC technology, which enables this type of transaction, which indicates an increase of around 76% compared to the first half of the previous year.

During the period, R$$414.8 billion were moved through technology. In June alone, contactless purchases accounted for 48%d of card payments. In June 2021, this share was around 13%, which clearly shows the strength of technology. In December, the expectation is that the index will reach 56%. The figures are from Abecs, an association that represents electronic payment companies.

NFC

To make contactless payments, the device must have the NFC technology, which is native to the operating system and cannot be installed on the device on its own. iOS devices offer the technology, but Android users need to check whether their cell phone allows this type of operation.

To do this, you must access Settings, go to Connections and check. If your phone has this technology, simply activate the “NFC and contactless payments” tab. Once you have checked, simply download the digital wallet app according to your phone’s operating system and register your credit or debit card to make payments.
