In addition to foldable phones, the brand wants to invest in a new technology for the devices. Find out what it is!
Manufacturer Samsung has invested heavily in new technologies to deliver quality and a better experience for its smartphone users. With this, the company has invested in innovations, seeking to make its models more attractive, with larger and virtually borderless screens.
A photo shared on X, or former Twitter, shows a presentation that highlights the notch formats currently used by the brand, where it is possible to see what the company wants for the future of its smartphones.
Find out more about the brand's latest news and what to expect from the manufacturer's future cell phones!
Borderless screens
Samsung wants to introduce and popularize screen technologies in the future, including smaller borders around the screen, leaving the front panel of the cell phone freer and with the camera under the display.
The screen with less border, known as “zero Bezel” aims to eliminate the borders around the screen, curving the OLED panel to the sides, with 3D laminated glass with protection.
Despite being very attractive looking, consumers may be concerned about the fragility that the screen may present when in contact with possible falls, leaving the device more susceptible to risks, including scratches and more serious damage.
Another point may be the use of protective covers, which may make it difficult to use the sides of the screen, or which may not be able to offer sufficient protection, while not using them may result in involuntary touches to the screen when holding the device.
Xiaomi
In February 2021, Xiaomi introduced a smartphone with a curved screen on the sides. The model had a body without physical buttons or a charger connector, but despite the presentation, the model never reached the market and a working prototype of the model was not released.
With Samsung looking to get this idea off the ground, we can only wait and see how the manufacturer will make it work smoothly. Furthermore, what price will consumers have to pay to buy a phone with a bezel-less screen?
Foldable cell phones
Samsung also wants to continue investing in foldable phones and sees the project as a way to achieve a large number of sales, getting out of the crisis that the manufacturer has been facing. The company also believes that it can reach the number of Apple sales with its foldable phones. The manufacturer recently launched its two new models, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5.
The company's head of Mobile Experience, TM Roh believes that global sales of these devices will surpass sales of the brand's flagship devices in 20%, later this year.
He still believes that one in three premium Galaxy phones sold in Korea will be foldable. However, despite the boss's optimism, Apple is preparing more than 80 million units of the new iPhone 15 for 2023, while sales of the Galaxy S23 have not yet reached even 50% of that Apple number.
Another problem for Samsung could be the launch price of foldable phones, which are considered to be unaffordable. Regarding this problem, Roh believes that as the technology matures, the company will be able to adjust prices and surpass Apple's numbers in five years.
Samsung sells more phones than Apple each year, but this is due to entry-level and mid-range phones, leaving premium devices less popular.
