Find out if modifying your memories will be beneficial for your daily life. See more!

The world of smartphones is constantly evolving and the race for the best performance seems to be never-ending. In this sense, a phone's memory is a very important part of its speed and quality. It can be the difference between a phone that runs everything quickly or a device that constantly crashes. Especially RAM, which is known for dictating a device's processing speed.

That said, the first model with 24 GB of RAM was recently launched in China, which already represents a significant advance in terms of storage capacity for mobile devices. But the news doesn't stop there and everything indicates that the brand is already pointing to the next milestone in the evolution of smartphones. Keep reading to find out what it is.

Performance that impresses

According to reliable leaker Digital Chat Station on Chinese social media site Weibo, the smartphone maker is testing models with more than 32 GB of RAM. This is an impressive jump from the 24 GB of RAM available on devices like the OnePlus Ace Pro 2, REDMAGIC 8S Pro and Realme GT 5.

Why so much processing power?

One theory points to large language models (LLMs) being used in generative artificial intelligence. This model, which underpins many AI applications, could benefit greatly from leveraging excessive amounts of RAM for increasingly complex tasks.

Another option is to sell smartphones with 32GB of RAM to those who want to connect their mobile device to a real personal computer by connecting it to an external display, such as the Samsung Dex. Having more available memory improves multitasking and overall performance, providing an experience closer to a regular desktop. But the question remains whether most users really need 32GB of RAM in their smartphones.

To understand why this question is asked, you should know that 32 GB of RAM may seem like too much for most daily activities, such as web browsing, social networking, email, and even gaming. It's up to manufacturers to find ways to fully utilize this performance potential and make it useful and accessible to the average user.

This is because the price of products with this amount of memory will probably not be cheap. Companies will have to justify to the customer the reasons why they would buy such a device, instead of one with 8 GB or 10 GB of RAM, for example. Models like these already serve most people well.

But, after all, what is RAM?

Random access memory (RAM) is an important component of computers and electronic devices. It serves as a temporary storage area for data and executable programs.

Unlike persistent storage, such as hard drives or SSDs, RAM is volatile. This means that its data will be erased when the device is turned off. Its main function is to ensure smooth and efficient operation of the system by providing quick access to the data needed to run applications and processes. In other words, the more RAM your device has, more tasks and programs can run simultaneously, improving overall system performance.
