Vulnerability in Chrome
Google has confirmed that Apple’s security architecture and engineering team, SEAR, has discovered a very serious vulnerability in the Chrome browser. The members of this group have received a $15,000 bounty from Google for their discovery. It may come as a shock to some readers, but Google is paying Apple to effectively break Chrome’s security, and that’s a good thing.
What is Apple SEAR?
Apple's SEAR team was formed to provide a foundation for system security operational in the product lines of the owner of the iMac. Of course, the security researchers on the SEAR team are best known for discovering vulnerabilities in devices such as iOS.
As part of this ongoing security process, responsible disclosures are made if anything related to third-party products is discovered. This is how the team discovered the issues for Google. News of this particular exposure came after the Chrome update announcement on August 2, which confirmed 11 security fixes stemming from SEAR vulnerability reports.
Google pays compensation
The vulnerabilities discovered by Apple's team were not available to Chrome's security team. Google hasn't revealed much about what's going on, keeping the technical details quiet until most users have activated the update.
However, according to the Threat Intelligence Platform vulnerability database, “this flaw is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability.” Google has already paid $ 123,000 in compensation to those affected. Chrome updates are downloaded automatically, and Google has started rolling out the latest security fixes. In other words, one piece of advice is to always stay up to date by going to the “Help” or “About” section of the Chrome menu, which will start downloading the latest updates. However, you must restart the browser to enable the update and protect users from this vulnerability.
System updates
THE Google Play system, also known as “System Google”, began receiving updates in August 2023. The new version of the platform will reach users with small improvements to the operating system and changes to the app store system.
After installing the new version of Google's system, users will notice that the advertising label for apps and games has changed from “Ads” to “Sponsored” when they open the Play Store.
